About the project

Expiro is a web service for companies with cars. A company enters the licence plates of its cars and Expiro looks up when their technical and emission inspections expire. Motor insurance and motorway vignettes can be added too. When a deadline approaches, an e-mail arrives, and the deadlines can also appear in a calendar. We built it end to end, from the idea to live operation: the app, pricing, payments with invoices and the terms of service. It took 18 days from the first test version (11 September 2026) to live operation with payments on expiro.sk (29 September 2026). The next step is a mobile app.

Expiro in 90 seconds: paste the licence plates, the deadlines are filled in from the registry and the reminders arrive on their own. The video is in Slovak.
The challenge

What we had to solve

Companies with a few cars track inspections in a spreadsheet or in their heads. A missed deadline can mean a €165 fine for the technical inspection and another €165 for the emission inspection.

Full fleet management systems are too expensive and complex for a company with five vans: GPS, logbooks and hardware installed in the cars.

Registry data costs money for every lookup. The price had to work even when hundreds of companies use the service for free.

We sell to companies, sole traders and private individuals, so payments, invoices and terms of service also had to meet consumer protection rules.

The solution

A simple web service that does one thing: it watches the deadlines a company cannot afford to miss.

Key features
  • →Just paste the licence plates, as a column copied from a spreadsheet or an Excel file. The car model and inspection dates are looked up automatically.
  • →A “What needs attention” overview: overdue cars, deadlines within 30 days and cars that could not be verified. Green only shows for verified data.
  • →E-mail reminders 30, 14 and 7 days before a deadline, plus deadlines in Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar.
  • →Motor insurance with a reminder of the last day to cancel, and motorway vignettes.
  • →Teams with roles: colleagues see the fleet with their own permissions and their own reminders.
  • →Card subscriptions with automatic invoices and a free plan for up to 3 cars with no card required.
  • →A “Something wrong?” button: instead of writing to support, the customer immediately sees the most likely causes and a one-click fix. An AI model helps rank them.
The process

How we approached it

01

The problem and the competition

Who tracks the deadlines today, what it costs them and why full fleet systems do not fit.

02

Data and its cost

Where to get registry data, what one lookup costs and what the supplier’s terms allow.

03

Pricing

Plans by number of cars, calculated for the worst-case cost. A free plan that can never push the service into a loss.

04

Product, payments and terms

Overview, reminders, teams, card payments with invoices, terms of service and consumer withdrawal.

05

Launch and beyond

Live operation on expiro.sk, guides on topics people search for (inspection fines, cancelling insurance), and next a mobile app with plate photos and notifications.

What we achieved

18 daysfrom the first test version to live operation with payments and invoices
€0free plan for up to 3 cars, no card required
< €0.50per car per month on paid plans
€129per year for the Business plan, less than one fine for missed inspections (€330)
What this means for you

What we bring from this project to yours

Code was the smallest part of the work. Most of the time went into the decisions that determine whether a service makes money: what one customer costs, how big the free plan should be, what the data supplier’s terms allow, who issues the invoice and what we promise consumers. These are exactly the questions we go through with you before the first line of code, so you do not build a service that cannot pay for itself.
